What to expect
When using a CNC router, it's important to understand that certain issues can arise during the manufacturing process. These may include burrs and sharp edges on the machined parts, which can be a result of the cutting process. These will need to be explained to our customers, as they may require additional finishing or deburring to achieve the desired final product.
Tool cutter marks may also be present on the finished product, especially on areas where the tool has changed direction or where there are sharp angles. These marks may not always be visible to the naked eye, but they can affect the overall appearance and functionality of the machined parts.
In terms of tolerances, it's important to note that CNC routers can typically achieve tolerances of +/- 0.05 mm, but this can vary depending on the specific machine and materials being used.
The CNC router can perform a variety of processes, including drilling, counter sinking, counter boring, tapping, and milling. However, additional processes such as chamfering, radiusing, and profiling tools may require longer set-up times and may result in higher potential scrap rates. If producing small volumes of parts, it may take longer to program the machine to achieve chamfering on all parts.
When using chamfer and radius tools, it's important to note that these tools can only work on one side of the part, and the bottom side may need to be manually deburred to achieve a smooth finish.
Overall, while CNC routers offer efficient and accurate manufacturing solutions, it's important to understand the potential challenges that may arise during the process and to communicate with the manufacturer to ensure that the final product meets your expectations.
